First off, whomever thought Coolio could play a vampire was clearly either repaying someone with a huge favor, or just is some sort of actual space alien that does not understand the nuances of human interaction and good taste.
I don’t really blame Coolio. I blame his agent. I am assuming he has an agent. If not, I blame Coolio.
Casper Van Diem was in this one too as the ship’s captain of a salvage ship - Capt. Abraham Van Helsing. Let us just say he was better in Starship Troopers, a lot better.
Not surprisingly there is a robot-babe in this one too. Erika Eleniak plays Aurora Ash and undercover Government Operative whom Dracula does not vamp as she has no blood and is not alive in the biologicalsense . You may recognize her from Bordello of Blood and she was a Baywatch babe. She is easy too look at but its not enough to save this movie from the dollar bin.
The thing about a Dracula movie is you can have all the effects you like. But the movie, I believe rests squarely on the performance on the actor playing Dracula. If they cannot make you believe they are evil incarnate the movie is a failure. I believe this is why so many modern horror movies fail. Lugosi was able to do this and certainly Chris Lee. As for the rest… eh. This guy, in this movie could not scare a chicken away from Foster Farms. He looks like he is ready to trick or treat a little early with his cape and white makeup. I mean if you are going to try and update the Dracula tale, wouldn’t it stand to reason that you should give CountOrlock a new look?
Not every movie has to be about dialogue. But if that is all you have, shouldn’t it be well written?
Don’t waste your time. This is one even Joe Bob should not see.
